R and D Manager

Salary Range: $115-145,000 + 15% bonus + relocation assistance

SUMMARY   

The primary role of this position is to provide leadership for the development of a balanced R&D project portfolio.  The manager will leverage internal and external resources, to develop programs, manage ensuing R&D projects from concept through to commercialization.  Scout new technologies to develop and optimize our capabilities in processing, quality assurance, technical services and customer solutions.    

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure team's compliance with all Food Safety and EH&S policies. 
  • Drive employee engagement by providing a structured and consistent approach to Talent Management and individual development
  • Anticipate customer requirements by staying abreast of important global developments and trends
  • Use market and technical insights to influence strategy and guide business plan development
  • Demonstrate responsiveness to the local and global customer needs by identifying and supporting development of capabilities and solutions in the regions where business is conducted
  • Creates portfolio that balances short and long term business needs.  Partner cross functionally to assess strategic fit, technical feasibility and financial viability of new opportunities
  • Identify and prioritize new customer solutions opportunities.  Align with cross functional partners to present novel solutions to BU leadership for approval and funding
  • Oversee prioritization of resources (ie budgets) to ensure alignment with strategic priorities
  • Ensure timely execution, dissemination of information and solutions to key stakeholders
  • Promotes a culture of collaboration and teamwork across organizational boundaries
  • Proactively establishes/cultivates a broad network within and without the organization
  • Builds and maintains active research programs that build upon previous technical knowledge in the field in conjunction with principles from multiple disciplines to defensible develop solutions.
  • Actively participates in protection of intellectual assets within the scope of a project
  • Builds team awareness of legal implications of, and appropriate behavior in, personnel and external interactions.   Promotes Information Protection - in compliance with company policies

Education and Experience Required

Required

  • Minimum of an MS degree in an applicable scientific discipline (Food Science, Cereal Science, Chemistry, Engineering, etc.)
  • 7 + years of industrial/academic experience
  • 5 + years of managerial experience leading technical teams
  • Proven experience working with external customers
  • Self motivated
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to scope, develop, manage and implement technical programs
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation skills
  • Demonstrated commercial problem solving/decision making ability
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups
  • Willing to travel 30% to leverage resources and support customers  

Desired

  • Master of Science degree in Milling and Baking Science, and/or Food Science
