Manager Technical Services/Sanitation

Salary Range: 80 - 95k + 10% bonus + relocation assistance

POSITION SUMMARY
Serve as Corporate trainer, technical resource/trouble-shooter, and auditor to domestic plants. Areas of expertise may include but are not limited to plant sanitation, product specification, USDA/FDA government compliance, food safety standards, product traceability and recovery, and continuous improvement. Provide leadership and support to plant quality assurance personnel and company management.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with plants in implementation of company-wide quality assurance policies and guidelines related to microbiological issues or processing lethality
  • Provide research, guidance and technical support to internal and external customers in the areas of microbiology, general food science, quality assurance practices (both general and proprietary) and food safety
  • Works effectively to obtain Corporate and Plant support to accomplish the mission of the position
  • Maintains the Corporate Sanitation Policy Manual, conducts Sanitation Policy Audits and Follow-up, and collaborates to develop and maintain training material for in-plant sanitarians
  • Conducts Sanitary Design Audits of new and existing processing equipment. Serves as a liaison with Corporate Engineering to develop corrective actions and monitor plant activity with follow-up
  • Review micro performance for Listeria monitoring programs and pre-operational results on a weekly basis
  • Provides technical assistance to plant quality assurance personnel and sanitation to solve cleaning and microbiological issues and to assist in the continuous improvement of Sanitation crew effectiveness and performance
  • Serve as liaison to customer Sanitation experts during 3rd party audits and other customer visits where plant sanitation is evaluated
  • Serve as a liaison to sanitation vendors as well as 3rd party sanitation service providers
  • Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of the food safety emergency response program
  • Participate in plant sanitation meetings as appropriate
  • Provides technical resources, verifies environmental sampling plans when plants undergo structural changes/construction and provides associated follow-up
  • Semi-annual Sanitation Conference organizer
  • Conduct reviews and analysis of customer complaints related to product quality for the Corporate Insurance department
  • Develop and maintain contacts within the meat industry in order to maintain the latest and most current information on the state of food safety, industry direction and food sanitation issues that affect the operations of the Company
  • Responsible for sanitation section of a quality newsletter (when developed)

Education Required:

  • BS in microbiology, food science, animal science or related field required. An advanced degree preferred

Experience Required:

  • Strong verbal/non-verbal and written communication skills
  • Five to seven years in managing quality in a meat processing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP, food safety and GMP principles
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 50%
