Responsibilities:

The coordination of complex and multi disciplined product development projects with minimal supervision. This includes ensuring that objectives, budget, and timelines are met

Conduct bench, pilot plant, and plant trials to create prototypes for consumer testing

The identification and/or innovative creation of new & unique concepts/ingredients/formulas/prototypes to achieve business goals of commercializing new products and product forms

Innovative and practical application/modification of existing technologies to achieve business goals of commercializing new products or line extensions

Works in a team environment ensuring alignment with cross functional partners including Marketing, QC, Process Development, Packaging Development, Finance, Operations, and Purchasing

Providing technical specifications and support to assure smooth rollouts of new products or line extensions into operations

Comprehensive product documentation to enable smooth commercialization and training of plant personnel
Principal Accountabilities:

Identification, assessment, and validation of formulations from bench top to commercialization (60%)
-
Ensures all proper documentation is done correctly and on schedule (15%)
-
Manages the financial aspects of Product Development including ingredient costs and plant trials (10%)

Fosters an innovation culture in company by continually introducing new ideas and product concepts (5%)

Creates, designs, supervises the development of new experimental protocols/best practices required to validate product concepts and prototypes (5%)

Independently directs the activities of outside vendors including ingredients and services (5%)
Job Complexity

This position requires the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Sr. Management as well as Plant Management. The Sr. Technologist must be a good problem solver, able to identify, interpret and analyze the correct data, and provide detailed directions to development projects

Maintains active knowledge and understanding in areas beyond Product Development including Process and Package Development, QA, Project Engineering, and thorough understanding of Marketing needs and financial hurdles

Sustain a high level of competence and professionalism in a dynamic business environment

Easily adapts to changing priorities
Education: BS in Food Science, Food Process Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with Product Development emphasis
Experience: 5-8 years of related experience with a consumer packaged goods background - Desired experience with snacks and bakery unit operations: cookie, cracker, chips, bars, bread, doughs...
